June/July/August:8am

Group road rides are Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday.

Thursday we have a road and gravel group. Nancy Hichok will be leading the road group

Graham and I will endeavour to a send out the route the day before the ride. If nothing is sent out before the ride the route will be determined by the group in the morning of the ride.

We are pretty wimpy here in the Okanagan when it rains. If it is raining at the time of our scheduled start time do not expect group leaders to show up for the ride.

Some road safety rules/expectations for our groups in traffic and crossing busy highways. Group protocols when crossing a busy highway are:

Crossing a highways such as 97 from L&A Cross Road we were all spread out and ended up with riders going in both directions on the shoulder and trying to cross the highway. As a result the vehicle traffic was confused and a large truck stopped in the middle of the highway to let us cross. Two things, 1) when we are crossing major highways with a large group we should stop by the side of the road and wait for a clearing and then cross the road, 2) when a vehicle stops for us in the middle of the highway we should wave it on and wait for a clearing and then cross. I think it’s important for all of us to act consistently when we are cycling in large groups (we can’t have some people waving the vehicle on while others are crossing in front of it)."
